New Year availability
Spending New Year in an idyllic cottage in the countryside is a great
way to get-away from it all and relax after the busy Christmas holiday.
Many towns have ancient traditions and festivals - often involving
fire as a historic way to welcome in the new year. Scotland is a major
destination for New Year - or Hogmany as new year is called in Scotland
- and Edinburgh's festivities on New Year's Eve are spectacular!
Finding a remote highland cottage to rent for New Year is difficult if
you have left it to the last minute to book your hideaway but there
will still be lovely cottages available all over Scotland - it is worth
telephoning even if you want to go on holiday the next day. Hogmany in
Scotland has many traditional activities - first footing being the
main one: a tall, dark stranger should be the first person to enter
your house in the new year carrying salt on a piece of bread and a lump
of coal. This will ensure the following year is prosperous, plenty of
food on the table and good fortune. Spending New Year / Hogmanay in a
self-catering cottage is an ideal way to get together with a group of
friends and relax - a log fire, snow outside on the hills and a glass
of mulled wine - a perfect way to start the new year! A good New
Year's resolution could be to book your self-catering cottage for next
New Year as soon as you return home from this one - then you will have
a full choice of accommodation and not just have the restricted number
of cottages available at the last minute for a New Year break.
